Befriender - Carers Sitting Service

Do you have a few hours to spare? If so you might be interested in becoming a volunteer with the Carers Sitting Service.
The Carers Sitting Service gives a break to those who have a caring responsibility for a husband,wife,partner,parent,relative or friend. Sitting sessions take the form of befriending and involve meeting the same person in their own home. The service is available across the whole of the county of Northamptonshire but you would be volunteering in a location local to you. The role could involve you volunteering in your own town or village.
The role does not involve providing personal care, undertaking cooking, shopping or any other domestic duties.
For this role you will need:
- Good communication skills
Whilst previous experience is not essential it may prove helpful to this role if you have:
- Worked in the caring professions, for example, social care, social work or nursing.
- Have skills that are transferable from either work or life experience (e.g. having been in a caring role yourself).

You must be over the age of 18 yrs.

Together with lone worker training, it is possible that dependent on the needs of the person you are supporting, you may be offered some training in dementia awareness.

When do I need to be available?
Start Date: 11/06/2018
End Date: 11/06/2019
It is anticipated that for this role you would be able to commit between 2 and 3 hours a week or, the same amount of time fortnightly or monthly between the hours of 9am and 5pm Monday-Friday. Volunteering is flexible and enables you to offer your time on a day that suits you and the hours that suit you. In this way it is possible to fit in some volunteering around your other commitments and interests.
