Opportunities with Northampton Volunteer Car Scheme
The Car Scheme enables registered passengers to get about with ease, convenience and peace of mind, allowing them to maintain their independence for longer and helps to prevent social isolation. Last year the 33 volunteer drivers took passengers to over 13,500 medically related appointments. They averaged 550 voluntary hours of journeys per month, which across the year would be equivalent to a value of £564,000 (using Heritage Lottery Fund how to value volunteers). As well as being a friendly face and a listening ear to passengers, our drivers gain a huge amount of benefits from their volunteering roles. They are able to meet other people and give something back to their local community. The flexibility of the role means they can fit it in with their other commitments.
