Horticulture and Conservation in Daventry for people recovering from mental illness
Posted for Green Health
Situated within a mile of Daventry town centre, Daventry Country Park is the perfect location for cycling, jogging, dog walking, fishing, bird watching or a pleasant stroll. The park has a circular 3.7 kilometre walk around Daventry Reservoir, which provides an ideal location for fishing and bird watching, while the Meadow Walk offers an alternative route. A visitor centre provides information about the park, and there is a café, children’s play area and several picnic areas available.
You could volunteer with the group from Green Health which are involved with horticultural and conservation projects at the park. This benefits the participants as well as the environment. Many members of the group have experience of mental health problems and this project enables people to engage in social interaction and healthy exercise whilst also developing or revisiting skills and rebuilding self esteem.
Why not give it a try?
Empathy with individuals who have mental health problems and an interest in the outdoors and physical work.
