Volunteer Befriender - Helping to reduce isolation and loneliness in the elderly community.
Posted for VIN - Happy@Home Project
Over 2 million people in the UK aged 75 and over live on their own. Happy@home gives the opportunity for an elderly person to socialise in a supportive environment and to create new memories and share old ones. We recruit, support and train volunteers to visit an elderly person who feels lonely. By developing this friendship it builds up confidence and wellbeing, helping them to stay in their own home and feel less lonely.
The weekly time commitment would be flexible to suit the volunteer and client but would ideally be a minimum of one hour a week.
- Good communication skills both over the telephone and face to face.
- Able to engage as part of a team.
- Confident to visit on your own and use your own initiative, with background support from staff.
