Gardening and Path Clearing
Posted for Friends of Billing Road Cemetery
We have limited gardening options in the cemetery, but we do have an area that we are able to use. We are gradually planting various native species in a specific area - this is an ongoing project. To improve biodiversity, we have asked WNC not to use weedkiller on the paths. We therefore have been hand-weeding. This has led to the discovery of features previously hidden by debris - a very interesting and exciting archaeological aspect to our work. We have a calendar of events in addition to our physical work in the cemetery. NB: Do not work in the cemetery outside our set sessions. We have specific areas that we are allowed to work in and limited permitted activities. The cemetery is in the Billing Road Conservation Area and being a cemetery we have to be respectful at all times.Skills

As we are an entirely voluntary community group, we plan events and activities throughout the year. The main gardening activities will be led by planting/maintenance seasons.
Path Clearing is generally late spring to early autumn. We try to plan a schedule of sessions in the cemetery as well as regular annual events.
