89% of councils opting for alternative funding post Brexit
A recent study has suggested that up to 60% of local authorities have made no provision for Brexit in their medium-term budgets. With a ‘no deal’ scenario now a real risk when the UK leaves the EU on 29 March, what does a potential black hole in funding mean for local authorities already beleaguered by austerity?
Whilst the UK’s future relationship with the EU and access to its funds is still to be determined, local authorities are being encouraged to undertake two key actions to attract funding to their local areas:
- Apply for EU funding that remains open to the UK as a member state up until 29 March 2019.
- Identify opportunities beyond the EU that may not have previously been considered.
