Northamptonshire Historic Churches Trust

Grants are available to churches and chapels in Northamptonshire for restoration projects, including preservation, repair, maintenance, general improvements, upkeep, beautification and reconstruction.

Northamptonshire Historic Churches Trust was founded in 1955 and makes grants to churches and chapels of all denominations in the county (now comprising of the Unitary Authorities of North Northamptonshire and West Northamptonshire).

It is a charity in its own right but is affiliated to the National Churches Trust. Its funds are raised by donations, covenants, membership fees and from the proceeds of an annual sponsored bicycle ride.

Churches of all denominations and ages can apply. To be eligible, the church or chapel must be within the County of Northamptonshire (now comprising of the Unitary Authorities of North Northamptonshire and West Northamptonshire) and in regular use as a place of worship.

The Trust makes grants to places of worship that are not already Church Members of the Friends of the Trust, but it invites them to consider becoming a member. Grants are also paid to parishes that are not already members of the Trust, but it would ask them to consider joining.

Applications are considered by the Trustees in April and November. The 2025 deadlines are:

  • 3 March 2025.
  • 6 October 2025.
