New music opportunities for female Carers

Northamptonshire Carers are launching MyMusic Northamptonshire this month, a new initiative offering female Carers of all ages the opportunity to get involved in a wide range of musical activities. The sessions are being funded by Spirit of 2012 and the DCMS as part of their Carers Music Fund, and will be delivered in partnership with musicians from Northamptonshire Music and Performing Arts Trust.

Resonate is the first 12-week project launching at the end of November, aimed specifically at women over 50 in a Caring role. The sessions will be informal, creative and inclusive, and anyone can come whether they’re the most musical person in the world or have never done anything like it before! The focus for this group will be coming together to share stories through music and song, but the sessions will be Carer-led depending on what the women would like to do. There will be opportunities to sing, write lyrics and try new instruments, with the chance for a group performance or recording at the end of the 12 weeks.

The 4 groups starting are as follows:

Daventry – Monday afternoons at The Daventry Band Hall
Corby – Tuesday mornings at Priors Hall Park Community Centre
Northampton – Tuesday afternoons at Broadmead Baptist Church
Wellingborough – Wednesday mornings at Swanspool Pavilion

We’ve got some fantastic musicians from NMPAT working with us on this project and it should be a really exciting opportunity for female Carers to do something different, fun and to improve their own wellbeing.

Part of the fund also covers transport costs and alternative care arrangements if needed.
