National Youth Sector Census

The National Youth Agency is encouraging people to complete the National Youth Sector Census return by 31 March to help create an accurate picture of youth work provision for funders, commissioners and policy makers.

The Census data also provides the NYA with information to make the case for greater investment in youth work and training to meet burgeoning demand, particularly as we move towards a general election.

What’s vitally important is that no stone is left unturned and that everyone who delivers youth work completes the Census to help provide a clearer picture of where youth work is taking place and how it is funded.

Why should you complete the Census?

It will increase your visibility to Government, commissioners and prospective partners who might benefit from your expertise / services
It will demonstrate any local need for provision and help to get more funding flowing into your area and support NYA’s work to build the national case for investment in youth work
By completing the Census, you gain access to Youth Work One a new digital platform, coming soon, which will provide a one stop shop for training, resources and events for the sector.
You will be able to use the interactive digital map of current youth work provision so you can see what other youth work is taking place in your area

How do you complete it?

It only takes 15 minutes to complete and registering is simple.
The Census page provides a range of resources including:
- A ‘How to guide’ to registering on Youth Work One
- The Census questions in downloadable format to help you to identify the details that you need to have to hand

What’s next?

Complete the Census by 31 March 2024 for your data to be included in NYA’s annual State of the Nation report (due to be published by the summer). This will be disseminated to key decision-makers, such as local/national government, MPs, Local Authority CEOs, funders and others with an interest in where youth work is taking place.
