National Lottery Policy Breakfast

The National Lottery Community Fund is delighted to invite you or a colleague to join a series of online policy breakfasts. Each breakfast will explore the knowledge and insight we have drawn together from speaking to charities and voluntary organisations during the COVID-19 pandemic and share how projects we fund across the UK are responding to the current challenges..

The theme for the next breakfast is:

5th June. 9:00-9:45am – The impact COVID-19 has had on how we access and think about food  – Led by Nick Gardner, Head of Climate Action, participants will explore the impact lockdown has had on how we think about food, how foodbanks have adapted and changed, and how communities have come together to support each other. Food stocks have begun to recover from the early wave of panic buying, but industry and the charity sector have had to move quickly to adjust to the ways that staying at home have affected demand. Many more people need food deliveries, or someone else to shop for them. This can be particularly difficult for people without established support networks.

Charities and community groups across the country were already working to prevent food poverty, to make food healthier, more environmentally sustainable and to reduce food waste. They’re now bringing these skills to the present crisis.

The COVID-19 pandemic has had a huge impact on the charitable and voluntary sector, with many organisations under pressure whilst seeing an extensive increase in demand. With organisations not being able to run their normal face to face services, many have moved online to keep supporting their clients.

We also want to hear your thoughts, ideas and comments about how your organisation has adapted to the current situation. As part of that, we want to know about the challenges you have faced and your ongoing concerns. There will be an opportunity to pose questions to speakers through the chat function. By coming to together, we want to give organisations and groups the opportunity to talk to each other about relevant topics and to discuss the short- and long-term impact of Covid-19.

After the event we will share the insights with attendees to support your organisation with these challenges. We hope you can join us for one of the above events. We expect these sessions to be oversubscribed and as such we would ask that only one person per organisation registers to attend. If you can’t attend, please free to pass on to a colleague.
