Mick George Community Fund

The Mick George Community Fund is administered by Grantscape and provided by Mick George Ltd through the Landfill Communities Fund (LCF), an initiative that allows landfill operators to release tax credits to environmental and community groups. The initiative broadly aims to benefit local communities in the vicinity of a landfill site.

GrantScape is the result of the consolidation of a number of smaller grant makers operating under the Shanks First Fund.  Its staff have been involved in grant making since 1997.  They have been responsible for managing and administering grants of nearly £90 million to environmental projects throughout England and Wales.

Grants are available for capital improvement works to public amenity projects.

Examples include the following:

  • Village halls.
  • Village greens.
  • Public playgrounds.
  • Sports fields and facilities.
  • Nature reserves.
  • Community centres.
  • Cycle paths.
  • Country parks.

Projects must be available and open to the general public as a minimum for four evenings a week, or two days a week, or 104 days a year. Projects at schools may be eligible if the general public can benefit from the project and applicants should contact Grantscape to check eligibility before applying.

Applications are assessed on the following main criteria:

  • The level of community support for and involvement in the project.
  • The local community benefit and enjoyment which will result from the project.

There are two funding rounds per year. The next closing dates for applications are 9 March 2022 and 31 August 2022.
