Historic England – Regional Capacity Building Programme

Grants are available to third sector organisations in England for local and regional projects which promote the understanding, management and conservation of the historic environment.

The Regional Capacity Building Programme is provided by Historic England (HE).

The national priorities of Historic England are to:

  • Identify significant elements of the historic environment at risk.
  • Support activities that strengthen the ability of the sector to reduce or avoid risk to the historic environment by understanding, managing and conserving.

Historic England offers funding support to third sector organisations in England that are working to promote the sustainable management and development of the historic environment. The funding is for projects that have a regional or local focus within England.

Applications will be accepted from third sector organisations that aim to maintain, manage and develop the historic environment whether regionally or locally in England.

Grants are available to cover the cost of local and regional projects which promote the understanding, management and conservation of the historic environment.

To be eligible, activities and projects must help to reduce or avoid risk to the historic environment through at least one of the following targets:

  • Building up the capacity and commitment of local communities to champion the conservation and enhancement of their own local historic environments.
  • Promoting best-practice standards and skills for the conservation, documentation, interpretation and sustainable management of the resources of England’s historic environment.
  • Meeting regional-based information needs.

Priority will be given to activities and projects for which there is a lack of alternative sources of funding.

There are no deadlines. Applications can be made at any time.
