Final Round of the Women’s Vote Centenary Small Grants Scheme – Now Open

The third and final round of the Small Grant Fund is now open for applications from across England with a deadline in mid October 2018.

The Government Equalities Office established the £1.5 million Women’s Vote Centenary Grant scheme earlier this year to mark the centenary of women gaining the right to vote in England. The Fund has been divided into a large grant scheme, which is now closed, and a small grant scheme, the third and final round of which is now open for applications.

The Small Grant scheme is aimed at local groups and organisations to hold activities that mark the centenary in their community. Applications will be considered from parish and town councils, voluntary or community organisations, not-for-profits including social enterprises, community interest companies, schools, colleges, and universities.

Grants of between £300 and £2,000 are available for activities that start by 15 December 2018 and are completed by 31 December 2018.

All projects must meet the overall CELEBRATE objective of the Small Grant Fund:

  • CELEBRATE, INSPIRE and REMEMBER: to increase national awareness and mark 100 years since women got the right to vote.

The funding is for activities which:

  • Celebrate key centenary milestones.
  • Increase people’s awareness of the women’s suffrage movement.
  • Improve people’s understanding of democracy in the UK, particularly young people.
  • Encourage and inspire participation in civic life.

Priority will be given to applications holding an event or activity connected to and on or around these key centenary milestones:

  • The Parliament (Qualification of Women Act) 1918 which gave women over 21 the right to stand for election as a Member of Parliament (MP) on 21 November 1918.
  • Women voted in a general election for the first time on 14 December 1918 with 8.5 million women eligible.

Round 3 will especially welcome applications from under-represented regions from Rounds 1 and 2, specifically: East Midlands; East of England and South East. However, this does not preclude projects from other regions from applying, and it is expected that projects from across England will be funded.

The deadline for applications is 16 October 2018 (23:59).
