Europe for Citizens – Town Twinning and Networks of Towns Action Grants Open

Funding is available for Town Twinning and Networks of Town projects.

The European Commission encourages the engagement of European citizens in all aspects of the life of their community, thus enabling them to participate in the construction of an ever-closer Europe. The Europe for Citizens Programme funds schemes and activities in which citizens can participate to promote Europe’s shared history and values and foster a sense of ownership for how the Union develops. The Programme has an overall budget of €187,718,000 for the 2014-2020 period.

The specific objectives of the programme are as follows:

  • To raise awareness of remembrance, common history and values and the Union’s aim that is to promote peace, its values and the well-being of its peoples by stimulating debate, reflection and development of networks.
  • To encourage democratic and civic participation of citizens at Union level, by developing citizens’ understanding of the Union policymaking-process and promoting opportunities for societal and intercultural engagement and volunteering at Union level.

The second 2018 calls for Town Twinning and Networks of Towns grants are now open to applicants established in one of the countries participating to the Programme (EU Member States and Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia, Montenegro, and Serbia). At least one EU Member State must be involved in a Town Twinning project and at least two Member States must be involved in a Networks of Towns project.

Applicants must be either public bodies or non-profit organisations with legal personality.

The 2018 budget for Town Twinning projects is €4.6 million and €4.5 million for Network of Towns.

The deadline for submissions under both strands is 3 September 2018.
