Opportunities with Swaziland Schools Projects

This beautiful country is landlocked with South Africa to the north, west and south and Mozambique to the east and is ruled by King Mswati III, one of the world's last remaining absolute monarchs. The king rules by decree over his subjects, most of whom live in the countryside and follow traditional ways of life. In 2018, the king announced that the country, hitherto known as Swaziland, would henceforth be called eSwatini. According to UNICEF, eSwatini has the highest HIV prevalence rate in the world at 27% of the population of 1.1 million - and 39% of pregnant women. HIV-AIDS has killed countless Swazis and there are currently over 130,000 orphans and vulnerable children. These children are either HIV infected or have parents who are so ill or destitute that they need support and protection. About two thirds of Swazis live in poverty. It is against this background that SSP supports children to get an education so that, hopefully, they can escape poverty and stay healthy.
