We are seeking to recruit receptionist / admin support volunteers to support us with our services based at Mercer’s Row and the Guildhall in Northampton city centre, along with our service on the High Street in Wellingborough.

Purpose of the role:

  • To help ensure the smooth running and organisation of the bureau
  • To provide excellent customer service to bureau clients and visitors

    The volunteer receptionist / admin support worker is a member of a team who provide a free, confidential, impartial and independent service to the public, both in the bureau and in the local community.

The main tasks and responsibilities will be to:

  • Operate the reception desk
  • Provide an information service for clients and advisers by providing leaflets, telephone numbers, relevant website and other ways to access relevant information
  • Input client data onto database using computers and file record sheets
  • Update information and procedure systems
  • Other general administration duties as required


Personal skills and qualities required:

  • A commitment to the aims and principles of the CAB service
  • To be organised and systematic
  • An understanding of the importance of CAB work
  • Excellent communication skills, both orally and in writing
  • A willingness to attend training and other meetings
  • To be able to work as part of a team

Availability Details

To help us deliver our service, you must be able to commit to volunteering as a receptionist / admin support worker for at least 1 shift per week for a minimum period of 3 months. Generally we have 2 shifts available each day: 9.30am – 1.00pm and 12.30pm – 3.30pm (some flexibility in times is available).
