The Museum's friendly Visitor Guides provide accessible information for individual visitors and interpret the collection to provide an all-around excellent visitor experience.
This front of house role is for you if you are interested in historic artefacts, have great interpersonal skills and are a good communicator.
Key elements are:
- Present, instruct and inform visitors and the general public about the Museum and collection
- Act as first point of contact for enquiries of all nature from visitors
- Ensure the security of the collections and buildings and monitor the functioning of exhibitions, reporting all breakdowns / inactive exhibits
- Keep the Museum clean and tidy
- Maintain Health and Safety standards and follow the procedure for reporting incidents
- Provide guided tours around the Museum
Skills

- Interest in the museum, its historic collections and its ongoing story
- Strong communication skills and confidence in conversing to the public
- Commitment to excellent customer service
- Ability to work as part of a dedicated team and individually
- Common sense and initiative

The minimum age of our volunteers is 13. -

Availability Details
Shift times and lengths are flexible and will be discussed and confirmed with the Volunteer. The Room Guides usually work between 10:30am and 4.30pm whenever the Museum is open to the public, usually Wednesday to Sunday, including School and Bank holidays.
Milton Keynes Museum asks for a minimum commitment of 1 shift per month.
