Full description of volunteer duties:
Local groups provide a relaxed and informal environment for individuals with diabetes to meet and share experiences. They can be an extremely useful source of support and information, especially to those who are newly diagnosed or struggling with the management of their diabetes.
As well as this, local groups also provide valuable support to the work of Diabetes UK through fundraising, campaigning and raising awareness.
PURPOSE OF THE ROLE
To be responsible for the finances of the group by maintaining proper records and following the procedures required by Diabetes UK.
MAIN TASKS To keep an up-to-date record of financial transactions including receipts and payments. To ensure accounts are up to date and can be checked by the Diabetes UK Groups Accountant and auditors on request. To ensure that the groups expenditure is in line with Diabetes UK's objectives and the guidelines on expenditure set down in the Local Group Agreement. To ensure the committee is aware of their financial duties and responsibilities. Prepare and submit the Annual Return to the Diabetes UK Central Office. To pay all income into the groups account as soon as possible after receiving it. When purchasing equipment for the group, complete a VAT exemption form if appropriate. Process volunteer expenses for the group. Act as a cheque signatory for the group. Check and reconcile bank statements promptly. Please copy this form for additional vacancies
Good numerical skills Good organisational skills and ability to work as part of a team. Ability to present and explain financial information clearly. Ability to set up and maintain accurate financial records. Ability to understand and analyse simple financial information. Willingness to comply with the Diabetes UK Group Agreement.
