You will be providing the puppy 

with a vital foundation for its future role as a guide dog with someone with sight loss.

What does the role involve?• Feeding, training and generally caring for a puppy's needs on a daily basis is time consuming and, particularly when very young, they cannot be left on their own for more than three hours• You will develop and care for a puppy as directed by your supervisor and as described in Puppy Walking Policies and Procedures• You will familiarise the puppy with many different environments • Teaching basic obedience commandsYou will need access to a suitable area where the puppy could go to the toilet during the day, including first thing in the morning and last thing at night
Location: Home based
What skills or experience are required?• Good communication skills• Good interpersonal skillsExperience of being in an environment around dogs an advantage 
What will I get out of it?• The challenge and reward of seeing a puppy develop in your home• The satisfaction that you have had a pivotal role in providing guide dogs that enable blind and partially-sighted people to enjoy the same freedom of movement as everyone else
What support / training will I get?• Regular and ongoing support from your supervisor• Basic induction to Guide Dogs and to the roleAn opportunity to take part in any general Guide Dogs volunteer training that is available locally

Minimum Age: 18
