Home Support Volunteer
Posted for Helen and Douglas House
We are looking for volunteers to assist the families of the children who come to Helen & Douglas House. The needs of each family will vary but will include help around the home such as cleaning, ironing, and shopping or help in the garden, such as mowing, weeding and planting.
How do I get involved?
Home support volunteers are matched with individual Helen House families. The needs of each family will vary but volunteers generally help around the family home with light cleaning, ironing, gardening, shopping etc. Some volunteers may also help siblings with homework or play games.
Our families are based in Oxfordshire and the surrounding counties, but we are particularly looking for volunteers in:
- Northamptonshire – Home Volunteers.
We are looking for commitment of 3-4 hours per week (including travelling time), for up to one year. Our families are often based in the counties surrounding Oxfordshire, so some travel may be required.
Main responsibilities and duties include:
- Regularly visiting a family to offer practical help in the home as requested by the family.
- Being a ‘listening ear’ where appropriate.
- Helping with light cleaning and tidying.
Experience and training:
We’re looking for someone who has the confidence to work on their own in a family home. Experience of working with children or families would be an advantage, but it’s not essential – full training will be provided (both face-to-face and online).
Helen & Douglas House is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. We are an equal opportunities employer and value the benefits of a diverse workforce. We positively encourage applications from all areas of the community.
