Progressive Supranuclear Palsy(PSP) and Corticobasal Degeneration (CBD) are both life limiting neurological conditions caused by the progressive death of nerve cells in the brain. This leads to difficulty with balance, movement, vision, speech and swallowing. It is a rare, degenerative condition for which there is currently no cure.
Helpline Volunteer needed to support the helpline service offered by the PSPA. The role involves responding to calls to the helpline during evening hours (7pm - 9pm) providing information and emotional support for people affected by PSP and CBD.
Linking to other PSPA services and signposting externally as appropriate.
This is not a counselling role; however, it is essential anyone carrying out the role has excellent emphatic listening skills and the ability to communicate clearly and effectively.
Empathic and supportive, reliable, excellent listening skills, a minimum commitment of four hours monthly, access to internet and use of email is highly desirable.
