Do you like walking and are you willing to lead a group of other walkers?
South Northamptonshire Council is looking for volunteers to lead health walks in their own town or village.
Duties will include: Planning routes and making a risk assessment. Checking equipment, taking a register and outdoor health questionnaire if required, keeping an eye on all the walkers and helping to point out hazards.
After the walk, leaders will check to make sure everyone has returned safely and then join them in a well-earned tea or coffee!
Time commitment: Approx 1 hour per week. All volunteers will attend a free one day Walk Leader training course.
COVID-19
Walking for Health restarted small walks on 24th June and is now able to offer walks for up to 30 people – with walk leaders following current guidelines. 10 of the 26 walks offered in South Northants have restarted in some capacity.
Unfortunately, all health walk leader training sessions are currently paused. However, you can register your interest and be placed on the training waiting list. You will be contacted by the SNC Healthy Communities team once sessions restart.
Skills
Volunteers will need to have effective communication skills, and ability to motivate.
