We provide advice to clients in a variety of venues either face to face or over the telephone. This may just be a case of pointing the client to other agencies that can help them or contacting agencies on behalf of that client to help them solve their problems.

We also use the data we collect to lobby government to change policy on social policy issue for instance pay day loans.

We also provide our volunteers with a comprehensive education and training to be able to undertake the role they are volunteering for. The Citizens Advice service offers information and advice through face-to-face, phone and email services, and online via Adviceguide.org.uk. During 2010/11 the service helped 2.1 million people with 7.1 million problems relating to issues including debt, benefits, employment, housing and immigration. Advisers help clients to fill our forms, write letters, negotiate with creditors, and can even represent them at court or tribunal.

They must be able to speak and have a good understanding of the English language. As form filling and letter writing may be required for clients they will also need to show good writing skills or use of the computer spelling and thesaurus functions.
