Role Summary: 

Our Gardening Volunteers play an excellent role in the conservation and maintenance of our award-winning gardens. The role is primarily based in the 18th Century walled kitchen gardens. 

Role Objectives: 

The Gardening Volunteer role is varied and there are lots of different tasks that you will be involved in. Below are the general tasks you will undertake each time you volunteer - 

  • Planting and bedding
  • Potting plants 
  • Harvesting fruit and vegetables 
  • Flower Cutting
  • Digging and Weeding 
  • Pricking out seedlings
  • Propagation 
  • Preparing and displaying produce for sale 

Please note that this role will require you to cover different areas of the gardens which may involve stairs, uneven surfaces and differing temperatures.

We ask volunteers to dress smartly for their role and encourage you to wear layers and comfortable shoes. 

Skills

What skills or experience will you need?

  • Horticultural experience or a keen interest 
  • Flexibility and enthusiasm 
  • Physically able (some lifting may be involved) 

What you can expect from volunteering for the Kelmarsh Trust: 

  • A full induction and training programme with on-going support. 
  • A welcoming and enjoyable volunteer experience. 
  • Excellent skills to take forward into future roles and record on your CV. 
  • Regular social activities including coffee mornings and volunteer trips. 
  • An optional buddy system to ensure you settle into your role. 

How much time will you be expected to give?

We ask our garden volunteers to preferably commit one day, but in some cases we can accept half days.  We are keen to have a new Wednesday Group so this day in particular would be desired.
