Role Summary:
Our Care of Collection Volunteer role is important for preserving the Kelmarsh collections. Through
recording the details of items, they can be maintained and used for the future generations.
Role Objectives:
The Care of Collections role can vary dependent upon the area you are recording. Below are the
general tasks which may arise in each area -
- Cataloguing items using a catalogue form (which includes item location/ accession number/
- description of item/ condition of item)
- Using a work station to carefully clean items which may need it
- Working from room to room, completing the collections before moving on
- Data will need to be recorded digitally after the collections have been recorded, so as to ensure the data can be easily accessed at a later date
Please note that this role will require you to cover different areas of the building which may involve stairs, uneven surfaces and differing temperatures. We ask volunteers to dress smartly for their role and encourage you to wear layers and comfortable shoes. Seating is provided for rests during quieter periods.
Skills
What skills or experience will you need?:
- An interest and willingness to learn about the history of Kelmarsh Hall & Gardens
- Desirable experience in care of collections (training shall be provided)
- Enthusiastic and friendly
- Enjoy meeting and talking to people
- Reliable and excellent time keeping skills
How much time will you be expected to give?:
We ask for a minimum of 3 hours per volunteering session, however the roles can be flexible as we
appreciate you may have other commitments.
The Hall will be open from 11am-5pm on Sundays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays from April until the end of
October.
