SSAFA is a national charity helping and supporting those who serve in our Armed Forces, those who used to serve and the families of both,  One day's paid service in any of our Armed Forces is all that is needed to qualify for assistance from SSAFA.  Their network of volunteer Branches and Service Committees provide support to the Armed Forces and veterans community.  Currently SSAFA has 92 Branches and 65 Service Committees worldwide.

Helpers provide support to the local Branch in a variety of ways including, administration, answering telephone calls and helping at events throughout the year.  Branches may include additional tasks at their descretion.  Helpers are responsible to and supported by, the Branch or Division Secretary, according to the task environment.

Duties may include:

  • Helping with office administration.
  • Helping with fundraising or recruiting activities.
  • Promotion of SSAFA in the local area so that eligible persons are aware of the assistance available.
  • Attending the Branch AGM and training days.
  • Alerting the Branch or Division Secretary where specific needs are identified.
  • Participating in any SSAFA fund, recruiting or awareness raising events, where possible.
  • Ensuring that all data processed or held as part of the role, is processed and held strictly in accordance with SSAFA's data management policies and procedures.
  • Complying with and promoting SSAFA values and standards, including the code of confidentiality

Specific duties may be added by branch where appropriate.

A forces background is not essential, a driver's licence is beneficial for some geographical areas and basic IT skills are generally desirable.
