Promoting and supporting voluntary activity across South Northamptonshire

Charity Crafts

snvb identified a need for a Charity Craft Circle following several enquiries from potential volunteers and local community groups.  The project aims to provide opportunities for people who are isolated and are interested in handicrafts, to use their skills to help local charities.

The volunteers produce handicrafts that are passed onto local groups to sell or that will assist them in their services.  Current ideas include blankets for dogs waiting to be re-homed by a local animal charity, children’s dressing up clothes for a local museum and greeting cards to be sold at craft fairs.

Sessions are held on the 2nd and 4th Wednesday of every month between 2.00 pm and 3.30 pm at the Volunteer Centre in Whittons Lane, Towcester. New members are very welcome.

If you are interested in joining the group, or if you have any ideas for what the volunteers could make, contact us on 01327 358264 or send us an e-mail . If you are unable to attend these sessions but would still like to make items please contact us, as some of our members are working at home.

Additionally, we would be pleased to hear from you should you have any craft materials that you would like to donate e.g. knitting wool or card would be useful.

Knee blankets for Cynthia Spencer

Our Charity Crafts group has recently embarked on a new project to knit/crochet blankets for Cynthia Spencer Hospice in Northampton.

These blankets are a bit bigger than conventional knee blankets and help both patients and visitors to stay cosy.

If anyone would like to help in this endeavour please get in touch.  You can make the blankets in any colour wool, using whatever pattern you like.  Or Charity Crafts would be very happy to receive gifts of wool.

The blankets should be 3 feet by 4 feet (900mm x 1200mm)

Knitted items and wool donations can be dropped in at the Towcester Volunteer Centre (Mon – Thurs mornings)
