snvb joins Social Networking

snvb has joined the world of social networking, making finding out about voluntary activity in South Northamptonshire even easier!

The volunteer centre (formerly South Northants Volunteer Bureau) has set up Twitter and Facebook accounts with the aim of providing even greater access to information and is encouraging people to follow them.

Volunteering Coordinator, Nicola Shaw, said: “We already have a wide following through our regular newsletters and ebulletins but this is an exciting new development for us! We want to use these sites not only to provide up-to-date volunteering information in South Northants but also to encourage more interactive debate. So, if you have any issues you would like raised, or just want to chat, why not join us? “

To follow snvb search for snvb_snorthants on Facebook or follow@snvb_snorthants on Twitter. Or go to our website and click the Follow us buttons.

Alternatively, for more information you can ring Nicola at snvb on 01327 358264.

snvb Annual General Meeting and Annual Review

Our Annual Review was held on September 22nd at the South Northamptonshire Council offices.  The meeting started with a welcome from Chairman of Trustees, Dave Kidd.  Dave gave a quick introduction to the agenda and thanked everyone for coming.

This was followed by a review of last year's activities by Mel Bignell. She highlighted our successes during the year and gave a run-down of all of the current snvb projects.

This was followed by a most interesting keynote speech from the MP for South Northamptonshire, Andrea Leadsom.  She gave a perspective on the Big Society and how it affects the voluntary and community sector locally.  (There is a video of the full speech below).

This was followed by a look to the future from snvb CEO, Rob Tracey, who gave the audience a picture of the problems that snvb had experienced early in the year with funding streams ending, followed by a description of the new projects that we have managed to secure (including a renewal of the School of Life project with a different funding source and an exciting new opportunity called Village Networks)

Finally, Andrea Leadsom MP presented Volunteering Coordinator, Nicola Shaw, with a new certificate of accreditation for our Volunteer Centre activities from Volunteering England.

Lottery Success for Village Networks

Villages in South Northamptonshire will be the winners as the result of a successful bid to the Big Lottery Reaching Communities fund by snvb.  South Northants Volunteer Bureau will be using the money to improve access to services for local people.

Dave Kidd, Chair of snvb, said “We are so pleased that, with funding of nearly half a million pounds, we will be able to expand and develop our work in the area over the next three years.  Working with other voluntary and statutory agencies and village groups we will provide access to existing services and help to expand and create new ones.  Our aim is to bring in the services that people living in a rural area need and we have much to do prior to the launch of Village Networks in the New Year.”

We will publish more information about the project in due course - watch this space!!
