Safe n Sound

Safe ’n Sound is a scheme run by snvb and aims to improve resident's lives by ensuring they are warm and that their homes are energy efficient and as safe as possible from the dangers of fire, crime and the cold.

It is designed to help all residents in the South Northamptonshire district.

The scheme relies on the recruitment of volunteers, particularly in the many village communities of the district, who, after some training, will encourage local people to benefit from a variety of services, such as the installation of smoke alarms, door security furniture and energy saving measures.

Some of these services are offered free of charge, while grants and other financial benefits are often available for further measures. Ongoing advice and support is available from professional organisations if needed.

The scheme aims to:

  • reduce the numbers of fatalities and serious injuries caused by fire,
  • to lower the number of domestic burglaries,
  • to reduce the numbers of deaths and the incidence of falls, respiratory and heart disease caused by living in cold houses and
  • to help the environment by contributing to local and national targets to reduce carbon emissions and save energy.

The project is supported and financed by South Northamptonshire Local Strategic Partnership.

Our partners in the scheme are:

  • Care and Repair, Daventry and South Northants,
  • Northamptonshire Teaching Primary Care Trust,
  • Northamptonshire Fire and Rescue Service,
  • Northamptonshire Police
  • South Northamptonshire Council
  • South Northants Homes

The project aims to save over 14000 tons of carbon emissions in South Northamptonshire and to reduce energy consumption by 7½ million kilowatt hours annually – a significant contribution to environmental protection and to helping South Northants to do its part in meeting the UK’s commitment under the Kyoto Protocol.
